The foundation

Why creatine matters in midlife

Creatine helps your muscles replenish energy during brief, intense efforts. Combining it with resistance training can support improvements in strength and exercise performance. It's one piece of a bigger picture that also includes movement, nutrition and recovery.

01 · Strength

Support your training

Creatine monohydrate is widely studied for repeated, high-intensity activity and resistance exercise.

02 · Aging well

Stay active

Preserving strength and functional capacity becomes more important with age. Exercise is the foundation; supplementation may complement it.

03 · Brain science

Still emerging

Research on memory and cognitive performance is promising in some situations, but results are mixed and benefits aren't established for everyone.

Brain & cognition

What does research actually show?

Creatine helps the body manage cellular energy, including in the brain. A 2024 meta-analysis reported encouraging results for some measures of memory and attention, but did not find a clear improvement in overall cognitive function. Another 2024 review found little consistent benefit in non-stressed people.

The takeaway: Brain-health research is worth watching, but creatine isn't proven to prevent dementia or guarantee sharper thinking. For now, strength and exercise performance have the more established evidence base.

Simple routine

How do you take creatine?

Research and sports-nutrition guidance commonly use 3, 5 grams of creatine monohydrate daily for adults. Follow the directions on your specific product label, since scoop sizes and serving recommendations vary.

Consistency matters more than precise timing for a typical daily routine. Many people mix it into water or another beverage. A loading phase is optional, not necessary for everyone.

Ask your healthcare professional before use if you have kidney disease, are pregnant or nursing, or have questions about medications or medical conditions.

Common questions

Creatine FAQs

Is creatine only for people who lift weights?

No. Creatine is studied primarily for physical performance, and people with many activity levels may consider it. The clearest strength benefits typically come alongside exercise, particularly resistance training.

Will creatine cause weight gain?

Some people notice an initial increase in scale weight due to greater water retention in muscle. This is not the same as gaining body fat.

Can it make me feel bloated?

Some people experience gastrointestinal discomfort, especially with large single doses. Smaller, consistent servings may be better tolerated.

Should I take it before or after a workout?

Regular daily use matters more than a specific time of day for most people. Follow your product instructions.

Is creatine safe for kidneys?

In healthy adults, recommended doses are generally well tolerated in research. People with kidney disease or potential kidney-related concerns should seek medical guidance first.

Does creatine help memory or brain fog?

Research is ongoing. Some studies suggest potential benefits for certain cognitive measures or during stressful conditions, but the results are not consistent enough to promise improvements.
